Wind River Country:
The Path of Fur Trappers and Native Americans
As you continue your way through the real Old West along U.S. Highway 26, you'll enter beautiful Wind River Country, where the Rocky Mountains rise from the plains. You'll weave your way through small towns like Shoshoni, Hudson and Atlantic City, where life seems to slow down a little and you can get the best old-fashioned ice cream or take a break in a saloon that hasn't changed much in 100 years. This wild country was home to the famous Lewis and Clark guide Sacajawea. Her gravesite rests on the Wind River Indian Reservation, one of the largest Indian reservations in the country and home to the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes.
