ORVs—dirt bikes, four-wheelers, dune buggies and jeeps—are the modern mechanical horse. Mount your machine and you are off on a new brand of adventure that allows you to cover more miles and more challenging terrain than any real horse you’ll ever ride could handle. Wind River Country’s wide range in elevation means there are lots of different environments for you to explore on your machine. There are sand dunes out in the Red Desert to race across, intricate badlands near Dubois to test your climbing skills, cobbled mountain trails to bounce down, and smooth two-track lanes winding through subalpine forests to ride.
You’ll also find a number of shops renting All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and offering guided rides in Wind River Country. If you are new to the area, this is a great way to get oriented to the vast expanse of territory out there for you to ride.
Remember to respect signs and stick to designated trails or ride in areas that have special open play areas for motorized recreation. For tips on minimum-impact riding, check out
