What makes the climbing here so fantastic? Two things:
nearly limitless rock and lots of sunshine all year round. You can climb long
alpine traditional routes up clean granite cliffs high in the
Wind
River Mountains,
or test your athleticism on short overhanging sport routes at the crag in
Sinks
Canyon, just minutes from Lander.
There are multi-pitch slab climbs at Sweetwater Rocks as well as difficult,
steep cracks to scale. You can boulder, place gear, or just clip bolts
depending on your skill and inclination. And for the new-route pioneer, the
unclimbed rock in Wind River Country that is just waiting for a creative eye,
bold mind, and strong body to scale is practically endless.
Wild Iris Sports
in Lander is a great place to find out more information about the local
climbing scene. Jackson Hole Mountain Guides offers
private guiding at the crags around Lander as well as extended mountaineering
trips into the Wind
River Mountains. The National Outdoor
Leadership School and Exum Mountain
Guides also offer mountaineering and climbing courses and trips
into the Winds.
